REHABILITATION OF VĪJISTEA CREEK DAMS CLOSE TO INVESTMENT FINALISATION
The Teleorman County Council implements the project "Rehabilitation of the dams located on the Vījistea brook in the localities of Vitănesti, Răsmiresti, Mārzănesti, Teleorman County" under the
Romania-Bulgaria Neighbourhood Programme 2004 - 2006, Phare CBC 2006 component.
The project aims at stimulating cooperation in the border areas belonging to the two neighbouring countries by undertaking joint activities aimed at the interconnection of the territories in the communications domain and at the coherent, correlated and sustainable development of the the whole region from a socio-economic aspect, in the context of the policy of economic and social cohesion of the European Union.
The goal of the project is to rehabilitate environmental protection infrastructure in the county, in order to provide protection against flooding, as well as response capability after the emergence of floods. The investment project aimed the rehabilitation of the 6 dams located on the Vījistea creek, in the localities of Vitănesti, Răsmiresti and Mārzănesti, and the final beneficiaries are the population of the localities of Vitănesti, Răsmiresti and Mārzănesti.
An automatic system for monitoring the water in the dams, to eliminate flooding risks, was purchased, which includes a central unit, level sensors, a station to store, process and transmit data to the dispatcher.
The subsequent effects of the proposed project will be:
- partnerships in the environmental protection domain;
- flood prevention and river bed erosion control;
- improved environmental management capacity;
- ensuring a sustainable economic development for the Romania Bulgaria border area;
- encouraging the municipal, county and regional authorities in developing integrated development plans for the localities.
